Negative effects of the media

     Bad effects of the media

Every one uses a form of media these days, even our parents and grandparents uses the media. The media has been contributing to many atrocities these days. We are all being brainwashed by the media. The Media portrait celebrities that have perfect bodies , butts. Boobs and so on. All other things are also been shown to the audience. I think the media has influenced a lot of ladies to doing plastic surgery. Everyone wants to have the kind of Kardashian butts and would go extra lengths to get it. Thousands of dollars are being spent everyday by people trying to look perfect with the influence of these celebrities. Recently, a man named Jordan James parke spent $150,000 just to look like Kim kardashian after just watching their reality tv show for a couple of weeks. So many other people have also spent fortune to look like celebrities.

A recent one that came to my attention was the Kylie Jenner lip challenge. The 17 year old reality was known for small lips until her lips suddenly became plumper. There has been an outrage where
girls are doing all sort of things to get the Kylie Jenner lip. Many were injured by the challenge and I can't help but feel sorry for these people been brainwashed by the media. Kylie Jenner probably had a surgery of an injection to have her lips looks plumper. She didn't have to punch her punch her mouth or suck her lips in a bottle to make her lips fuller. After Kylie's fuller lips, so many other girls also
wanted to have their lips fuller and would have their parents spend thousands for it.

Another thing is people starving themselves just to have abs and the perfect bodies as being portrayed by the media of their favorite celebrities. I Think to myself; these celebrities don't starve themselves, they have ways and drugs they use to keep fit. They also do all sort of photo shop to make their bodies look perfect. People go the length of eating cotton wools. I say to myself ; what is the media doing to us. It's doing so much to us and people don't realize it. We are all being servants to the media!!!  We are all being brainwashed!!!

The Media Controlling Us

Everyday we are being brainwashed one way or another by the media; TV, radio, or newspaper. Even worse the media is not just controlling us but also our kids. Our children are more vulnerable because they are the ones that spend more time watching TV. The media is always going to be a lie, like it or not we have to live with it because we have allowed it to be this way. Our kids watch cartoon shows every single day, one example, my son loves Paw Patrol which shows on Nickelodeon which is owned by VIACOM. VIACOM is one of the six biggest companies that control the media to their advantage. It’s a good learning show but at the same time is a way of propaganda, every time we go out and he sees a toy about that show its like a magnet he goes straight for it. I am for certain that I am not the only parent that has experience something like this. These companies manipulate everything single thing we do one way or another. They tell us what to think about, what to worry about, what to smile about and what to be scared of. Think about how this many people will not pay any regard to information that is not covered by the major media, if they did not hear about it on the nightly news then they simply don’t care. This is the mindset that the major media want us to have. We should question everything we see and hear from the media. Most people think they are acting on their own free will but they don't realize that their free will has been manipulated and influenced by a few power brokers. Most American have been robbed of free thinking and their own free will. When these power elite want to sway public opinion and candidate that they control, start a war to control and to put in one that they can, they use the main stream media to push their agenda and to win public support

The 6 Media Giants

When most people watch the evening news they do so thinking that they’re getting an honest and unbiased opinion, but in reality, it is false. If all you watch is main stream “news reporting” then you’re not getting the full story, and even worst, most of the time you’re being fed up with propaganda, to change your opinion and to make you think and do what the power holders want you to.

There aren’t numerous U.S. mass media news sources at all; In the 1980's there were 50 companies that controlled mainstream media. By 1990, 23 companies, and in 2013 this number decreased to six. Six companies now control all the mainstream media that reaches the masses.. Six giant corporations control 90 percent of US mass media. And direct links connect all six of these media conglomerates to the political establishment and the economic and political power-elites of the United States. Their control spans most of the newspapers, magazines, books, radio and TV stations, movie studios, and much of the web news content of the United States. They have the power to shape public opinion and beliefs. It's important to be aware of what we are exposed to every day. Also, make sure that we look at things from different perspectives and not just from the one that the mass media offers. It is important to get your information from a variety of sources.. Being first to report breaking news has long been a key value for traditional media outlets. . This is probably a result of various high-profile mistakes  made recently using social media information.
On the anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, it’s worth remembering that information posted on Reddit led to the New York Post printing images of two suspects on its front page, who had nothing to do with the bombings.
Following the disappearance of Malaysia Airways flight  MH370 in March, NBC also highlighted various false reports spreading on social media, which alleged that the plane had made a safe landing.

Do not rely on the largest TV networks. Look for smaller, noncommercial news sources, which may offer a different point of view. It is our responsibility to be informed!

Media Corporations

I will start by letting you know that I am currently in a Media Literacy class at the College of Staten Island. Over the past semester I have learned a lot when it comes to interpreting the media. Picking between what to believe and what is just nonsense that the media conglomerates produce to make money. However, there is a large amount of the public that has not taken a media literacy class and may not be able to stop the media from brainwashing them. Media companies will do whatever it takes to make that extra dollar or to gain that extra viewer, even if it is at the cost of straying from the truth. People ignorant to the tactics of the media will inevitably succumb to the sinister ways of the media, leading to an army of naive zombies that falsely think they control their lives.

90% of the media is controlled by 6 companies. I mean come on, do you really believe that you can get all the information you deserve when only six companies basically control every piece of media you consume? These six companies construct an illusion of choice by creating tons of sub companies that unknowing people perceive as independent sources of media. So when you are watching different channels that you many think are independent, you realistically might be watching multiple channels owned by the same corporation, which means they will all have the influence of that corporation. For example if you watch ABC, ESPN, or a Pixar film, do you think you are consuming different sources of media and increasing your media literacy? False, those three sources of media are owned by Disney. So whatever Disney says they can produce they produce. Here is a perfect chart showing the unbalanced distribution of ownership.

The majority of people that consume media are controlled by the media. Whatever the media says, they take as truth because they believe the media is for the good of the people. FOX News will produce what they think will give them the best ratings. There could be millions of things wrong with this country but if those topics are not selling, FOX News could care less. For example the public is brainwashed to think that the government is regulating banks after the 2007 housing crisis, only because the News Corporations report it. When topics are reported on the nightly news, people take that as the truth, not realizing that the news companies are owned and influenced by the same people creating all of the problems. I mean come on, if you were doing something illegal and knew someone was going to report on it, and you could stop them, you would! Same thing the media giants are doing. If a scandal is uncovered, it may get leaked some how and be in the media for a little bit, but all of a sudden the media will some how forget about those issues and move on to other topics, leaving the public to forget what happened.

So what is the best way to not be brainwashed by the media giants? Broaden your horizon with the media you consume. Make sure you know the background of the media source you are consuming, or at least try to know, since it is very hard to narrow down who exactly owns everything. Do not simply take whatever the media is producing as the truth, do your own research and create your own opinion. The more and more you interpret the media with scrutiny the more you will realize you have no idea what the truth actually is. You will start to realize the media you have been consuming is bias and does not report the whole story most of the time. So get out there, unplug your mind from corporate media sources, so we can open the mind of the world.
